E.I.F.S. (Exterior Insulated Finish Systems) is a system that not only comes with a 10 year manufactures warranty but will pay for its self with cost savings recouped from increased “R” value. EIFS is much more efficient than stucco, vinyl siding, hardy plank siding, and veneer stone claddings. EIFS is made up of E.P.S. (expanded polystyrene insulation) also used in ICF (insulating concrete form) and SIPs (structural insulating panels) for insulation purposes. This is one component of the EIFS system.
The thermal resistance or “R” value for this board depends on the density of the EPS board and can range from 2.3- 4.0 per inch for your exterior wall system. This system works best because it insulates the structure from the outside in, keeping the cool or hot air in the structure.
Most coolers are made with XEPS (extruded polystyrene insulation) in which is in the same family as EPS, the only difference being EPS is a loose fill or bead insulation with slightly lower thermal resistance than XEPS foam board. These foam insulations have proven to be the best insulating material on the market. Not only is the polystyrene in EIFS systems made with recycled materials and is 100% recyclable but it is energy efficient, sound resistant and can save a great deal of money in energy costs along with reduced carbon footprint.
Many contractors and owners do not realize that with EIFS, finishes for the system can be colored to any paint color on the market, and it will not have to be painted once the system is installed. Since the color is actually integrated into the finish; it will not fade as fast as your typical acrylic paints on the market today. Lee Drywall is a certified EIFS installer for all major EIFS manufactures in our industry. Let us know how we can help design your next EIFS project with any of the multiple types of finishes available on the market today.
